    Masters of Technology, commonly known as M. Tech, is one of the most sought-after courses amongst research practitioners. Those who wish to work in technological research go for M.Tech. The programme helps the students in exploring the domains of technology. M.Tech programme incorporates the study of old technology and the upcoming technologies. The programme intends to encourage innovation in this field. It also assists in improvising the existing technologies. M. Tech is a two-years post-graduation programme offered in most of the engineering colleges in India.

    This programme is the specialization course in engineering that deals with advanced levels of B. Tech education. In India, the M.Tech programme specializations include Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology etc.

    Who can apply for M.Tech Programme?

    Eligibility criteria is an important aspect which one should be mindful of is the eligibility criteria. This parameter differs from the college to college, however, there are certain conditions which are common for all. To apply for Masters of Technology, the students must have qualified the B. Tech/B.E examination and have passed in all semesters. Also, they will have to appear for the national level entrance exam GATE or any relevant state entrance test to get admission in the M.Tech programme. Interested students will also have to secure the minimum marks as per the requirement of the respective college/institute.

    How to get admission to the M.Tech programme?

    Most of the colleges conduct the admission on the basis of one’s performance in the national-level or state-level entrance examination. Some of the most common technical examinations are the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), IIIT-B M.Tech Admission and IIIT Delhi PG (IIITD entrance exam – PG). The score of this examination is accepted by most of the colleges in the country. Some of the best private university or colleges also conduct their own tests. Those who obtain the qualifying marks in the entrance exams will have to appear for counselling as well as a personal interview to evaluate the technical skills of the students.

    What is the scope of the M. Tech Programme?

    Masters in Technology is a gateway to numerous job possibilities at some of the best tech companies in India as well as in other countries. M. Tech graduates will get to work in various fields depending on the specialization of the course. They will get ample of career choices in the government as well as the private sector. After getting an M.Tech degree, students can work in various fields of engineering. Some of the job roles offered to the M. Tech graduates are – Executive Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Chief Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Engineering Technologist etc. Also, they get jobs in companies like – Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, Accenture, Apple, Google, Samsung, Intel etc. After completing M. Tech degree, at the initial stage, the graduates will get Rs. 50,000 to 60,000 in private or government firms. The salary structure also depends upon the experience of the candidate. Some students also go for teaching as well. Some students opt for further studies and they go on pursuing a PhD. They also work as a Research Associate.
