8th class serves as the foundation for the classes to come which makes it really important to study well in class 8th and clear all the concepts of chapters that students study. While these exams are important for the future, it is also really important to not get too stressed or overwhelmed by the occasion of exams. Remember to always do the best that you can and leave the rest. The key lies in good preparation for the exams so that you are confident enough of scoring good marks when the exams do come.
Every student has to study the same syllabus from the same books but in order to score good marks, what matters the most is consistency, hard work and determination to do well in the exams. Here are some tips to help you in scoring good marks in class 8th exams –
· Make use of your time wisely –
Using your time to your advantage is paramount if you want to achieve great things in life, the same rule also applies while preparing for class 8th exams. After coming home from school, students have a lot of free time on their hands and more often than not, students nowadays spend this time using gadgets like mobile, laptop, tablets etc in order to pass their time. Instead of doing what most students your age do, it is essential to plan how to spend your free time preparing for exams while also keeping some time away to play outside and do some physical activity.
· Get in depth knowledge of every topic –
Many students read through each topic just for the sake of it without as much as trying to understand what the topic is about or what the real-life applications of the given topic are. When you are fully invested in the topic, curiosity towards it develops automatically which inspires you to get an in-depth knowledge of the topic, strengthening your grasp in it along the way.
· Read each line with full concentration –
Each line of every topic carries with it the context that is required in understanding the whole topic effectively. Most students simply read through all the lines and many even skip lines that seem unimportant to them just so that they are able to finish the chapter quickly. This approach is not recommended as it seems like those following it are merely completing a formality of completing the chapter without really trying to understand it thoroughly. Hence, make sure to be fully focused when reading each line of a topic so that you give yourself the best chance of understanding the given topic.
· Focus on understanding concepts instead of mugging up –
Most students nowadays focus on mugging up the key points from the chapters instead of trying to understand the key concepts that they carry. The downside to mugging up information is that its retention time is very less and you are likely to forget all that you mugged up soon. However, if you try to understand the topic by heart then it is possible that you remember that topic for a long time, at the very least longer than by mugging up the same topic. Hence, while studying a topic, try your best to understand what is being conveyed instead of cramming up the information.
· Learn from NCERT as well as reference books –
When it comes to exam preparation, NCERT is the go-to book in order to understand the concepts and learn the basics of the topics. Every student must read all the chapters from NCERT first and foremost and gather all the basics that are required to solve questions. Thereafter, they can move on to reference books of their choice or which are suggested by their teachers in order to practice more questions and get extensive knowledge on the topic.
· Form a discussion group with your friends –
It is recommended that you make a discussion group with your friends, with whom you can share what you have learnt and in turn get a chance of picking their brains and getting to know their point of view on the topic which gives you another approach on how to understand the topic. You can also ask your friends in the discussion group any doubts you might come across while studying which they might be able to explain in an easy manner.
· Focus on quality of study time instead of quantity –
It is important to focus on quality instead of quantity of the hours you have studied. For example, you might have been sitting in front of your book for several hours but when you try to analyse how many hours you actually studied with full focus, it would come out to be a lot less than the total time that you sat down to study for. Therefore, when studying, always give your full attention to it and dedicate yourself fully to it at that moment.
· Take help of internet to gain insight into topics of interest –
If you stumble upon a topic that you are not able to understand, you can always turn to the internet to understand it in a better manner. There are various sources of knowledge present on the internet which can present the topic you are having difficulty in, with a different approach which can help you in understanding that topic easily. You can also solve CBSE Sample Papers for Class 8 to prepare in a better way for the exams.
· Take breaks more often and remember to relax –
It is not necessary to keep studying for hours on end and burn yourself out doing that, instead keep taking breaks after a specified time interval (like one hour) to relax yourself but also keep it in mind to not let the break stretch out for too much time. Get back to study after cooling down your mind while on break.
· Keep distractions away while studying –
With so many ways of getting distracted easily found in the vicinity, it becomes really important to keep your mind focused on the task at hand and not let the distractions get the better of you. Keep mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets likely to distract you, out of your reach so that you can give your full attention to studies.
GOOD LUCK!
