The problem of unemployment in India has been consistent ever since the nation got Independence. The rising population has made the situation worse. The generation of consistent and reliable employment has been one of the biggest challenges.

Every Government faces an uphill task to counter the menace whenever they are in power. They try to tackle the same by launching many schemes such as Skill India and more.

The focus of the current Indian Government led by Narendra Modi is to generate employment coupled with the improvement of employability. It is the priority of the Government to do that.

Let’s know how the Indian Government plans to improve employability in this post!

To improve employability in India, the Central Government has taken many steps, such as encouraging the economy’s private sector.

It is also tracking multiple projects coupled with substantial investment and is now increasing public expenditure on various schemes.

The schemes such as Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDU-GKY), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Skill India, and Deendayal Antodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).

The Central Government is focused on promoting entrepreneurship for enabling the youth of the country to contribute to the nation’s economic development.

What’s more, the Indian Government has also provided priority to entrepreneurship via schemes such as Mudra scheme, Startup India, Skill India and more.

Under the flagship Skill India training scheme of the Government, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is implementing another scheme.

It is called the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The objective of this mission is to offer Skill India training to 1 crore people under Short Term Training (STT).

The scheme is said to be on top priority during 2016-20.

The Government has also come forward and implemented the National Career Service (NCS) project. It comprises a digital portal loaded with the nationwide online platform for employers and job seekers for job matching in an efficient manner.

Other than these initiatives, multiple flagship programs like Make in India, Smart City Mission, Digital India, Swachh Bharat Mission, Digital India and Atal Mission are also running.

    Skill India development in India

India has a literacy rate of around 70%, and it is less than some of the developed nations. And around only 20% of them are employable.

According to a survey, around 25% of the Indian workforce has done skill training, and India needs a huge skilled workforce. In India, only a few people undergo the Skill India registration.

Even if they enrol under the Skill India registration, they fail to complete the course. In today’s era, many companies prefer to give employment opportunities to skilled employees. It is because they have outstanding growth in their career, and they also help the company grow with proficient working.

The survey of the World Trade Organization says that the GDP level of India can go up by 3-5% by 2035. It is if India focuses on skill development and training. For all-round development of the country, there is a huge need to skill the youths.

In the same context, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is responsible for implementing skill-based activities in India.

It has provided support to multiple organizations such as the National Skill Development Corporation. It has its focus to promote skill development in India by establishing training institutes all over.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, launched the Skill India Mission under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship on 15 July 2015.

The Skill India Mission provides vocational training and certification of Indian youth for initiating enhanced livelihood and respect in the society.

What are the objectives of the Skill India Programme?

The key objective of the Skill India Mission is to offer proper training in skills that are market-based to 40 crore youth by 2022. It also aims to create prospects for the development of talent within the nation and improve underdeveloped sectors.

What are the benefits of the Skill India Programme?

The Skill India mission comes with plenty of benefits. It offers efficient skill development, and help youths to be ready for better-paying jobs and enjoy a higher living standard.

The proper implementation of the Skill India mission at the base level within the economy also means that all related sectors are sure to benefit from it. They can experience equal growth and make India progressive.

What’s more, when trained Indians will be able to enter the workforce, then better results can be achieved faster.

If the objectives of the Skill India mission get implemented carefully, then it has the potential to boost the economic growth of the nation like never before.

The Government of India is on the right path to help the youth of the country become skilled and bag better-paying jobs and increase their standard of life.
