here are many different types of fires that can occur anywhere. Having a fire extinguisher at home or in the office does not ensure that it is ideal for putting out a fire. Among all the fires that can occur today, we will talk about one in particular: electrical fire. It is known as an electric fire that those fires originate due to failures in electrical installations. These can be produced either by the overheating of a device, damage to the electrical wiring that generates electrical sparks, electrical arcs that come into contact with flammable substances, etc … As its name indicates, it is any fire that is directly associated with an electrical installation.

Steps to safely put out an electrical fire

    1. Evaluate if you should call the fire department:

An electrical fire can have serious consequences if it is not acted on properly, so we recommend always warning the fire brigade. If you detect a fire at home or in your company’s facilities, call as soon as possible and indicate that the fire is of electrical origin so that they can act with greater precision and safety.

    2. Cut off the electrical current:

While you call the fire department, cut off the power to your home, office, or industrial facility. This will prevent other appliances from failing and overheating, reducing the risk of fire spreading.

    3. Locate a class C fire extinguisher:

Not just any type of fire extinguisher will do, as it could make the situation worse. If you don’t know what kind of fire extinguisher you have, it’s better not to use it. Class C fire extinguishers are those with carbon dioxide or carbon dioxide (these must be used with little pressure, or else they can fan the fire). These are commonly known as all-purpose dry chemical fire extinguishers.

    4. If the fire is small, use a fire blanket:

In small facilities or offices, it is advisable to have at least one fire-retardant blanket. Its operation is very simple: when you throw the blanket over the fire, it prevents the passage of oxygen that it needs to continue burning, so we will have controlled the fire quickly.

    5. If the fire is large or starting to grow rapidly, use the extinguisher:

After choosing the extinguisher you need for an electrical fire (class C), you need to know how to use it to contain the fire more effectively. Take into account the following recommendations:

    • Point the muzzle of the extinguisher at the base of the flame. If you aim at the middle or upper area, you will only be able to empty it without results.
    • Control the pressure: overdoing it will not only empty the extinguisher faster, but it will fan the fire.
    • Move from left to right aiming at the entire base of the fire.
    • Never turn your back to the fire when using the extinguisher; always have it facing you.

In conclusion, the best weapon to fight an electrical fire is prevention. Trust only certified companies to review your equipment facilities and thus ensure proper maintenance. If you want to avoid fire, do not hesitate to use IndoAsian products.
