The MOT test is a vital test that must be taken by your car. This test is determined to secure your car’s operational safety and environmental standards. The test is legal and mandatory for all cars that are three years or above.

The test is performed on some of the most important parts of your car. It is an important test that must be passed in order to obtain a pass certificate. The MOT pass certificate plays a significant role in situations such as car insurance or any other mishaps.

Why is the MOT test conducted?

MOT test is the Ministry of Transport test that is conducted once a year. This is a mandatory test for all the cars that have attained the age of three years. There is no specific time for getting your car’s MOT Reading done. You can just book yourself a slot and get the test done.

This test measures the safety metre of the car on the road by evaluating its key parts that are required to function properly in general.

How is the MOT test conducted?

The MOT test is conducted by evaluating the critical parts of your car. The test checks the condition of the entire car in general. The essential components that play a crucial role in passing the MOT test include brake fluid check, tread check, mirrors check, oil tanker check, warning lights checks, etc.

The test ensures that these parts of your vehicle are in good conditions so that you are safe driving and keeping others safe on the road. You need to register your car at the nearest MOT test centre and get prepared for the test.

How to prepare your car for the MOT test?

There are some measures that you must take before you take your car for the MOT Reading test. The most important ones include:

    • Check the tread depth of the tyre. Sometimes, the tread depth is affected due to dirt and earthly objects such as stones. These lead to the decrease of tread depth. The legal tread depth measure in the UK is 1.6 mm, and you must maintain it. This is a critical factor, failing, which can lead to failure in the MOT test.
    • Check the oil tanker and repair any wear and tear found. The oil tanker has sediments that must not exceed the required level. Use a metal stick to dip in the oil tanker and measure the sediments. Check for any clogging in the tanker. Fix all the abnormalities with the tanker before you take it to the MOT test.
    • Check the metre of brake fluid of the car. Find a mark with minimum and maximum marks in the front bonnet of the car. The minimum and maximum mark indicate the measure of the brake fluid. The ideal mark of brake fluid must be between the minimum and maximum mark.
    • The mirrors of the car must be sturdy and without cracks. As cracks displace the mirror and the image formations are affected, the mirrors must be smooth. The MOT test demands both the exterior and interior mirrors to be in good conditions.
    • Warning signs of the car must be working and indicating correctly. Refer to your car manual to find out the danger signs and repair if any one of them is malfunctioning.

What happens after the MOT test?

After the MOT test, you will be rewarded with your MOT certificate. Generally, the MOT test takes one hour to complete. If your car passes it, you get a pass certificate and take your car home. If your car fails the MOT test, you will not be allowed to drive away from the car. The MOT centre will make the necessary repairs to your vehicle to ensure it is safe to go.
