    DIY Tips to Completely Wipe a Hard Drive for Reuse

    Learn the completely process of how to wipe a Hard drive for reuse. In this blog, I will break down the technology into easily digestible tidbits to the everyday user.

    Here, I will show you how to completely wipe a Hard drive for reuse in a computer.

    Simple Procedure to Wipe a Hard Drive:

    Simply erasing the Hard Drive is not enough as Data Recovery software may make it possible to recover data later.

    The first thing to wipe your data from the hard drive is to get a proper software. In this case, I am explaining a powerful BitWipe Wizard, which provide a direct option to erase logical drive data in sequential mode.

    The BitWipe Wizard software is primarily designed for non-techie users, who wants to perform it using a GUI-based application instead of command-based toolkit.

    The command-based toolkit is completely out-of-the-environment now, as most of the users are more reliable with a GUI-based environment. In the same scenario, our application provides a simple & easy to use interface to the users for completely wiping a Hard Disk drive.

    1. Launch the application on your Microsoft Windows Device.
    2. Two separates mode available, choose Files/folder, or select Logical Drive (C/: D/: E/: F/: etc.).
    3. Users can also choose an option to Wipe Free Space, or completely Wipe the Disk Partition.
    4. Thereafter, the toolkit will list all the folders, subfolders, files, & other items in its panel. The user has full access to select only the required items.
    5. Once user choose the items for the deletion, click on the Next button. Multiple modes to Wipe data are available in the GUI of the tool including (Zero, Random, Zero & Random, WipeData, Secure Wipe, US-MFM, US-DOD, Microsoft Cipher, Bit-toggle, NATO Standard, etc.
    6. Choose any option from this list & setup all the options. A user can also apply the filter settings.
    7. Click on the Wipe button to start the process. The utility will pop-up a warning message, once data wiped out, cannot be retrieved back by any data recovery software. Click OK to confirm.
    8. Your Hard drive data deletion process started. Organizations can analyze the complete process directly in the utility panel.
    9. After the process finished completed successfully, exit from the software by clicking on the OK button.
    10. In the end, the utility will generate a SavingLog report, that includes the summary of the completely process.

    Wipe Hard Drive Data using Partition Formatting:

    Disk formatting is a process of prepping a storage device, in our case, it is a Hard Drive to store info. There are three main parts of the Disk Formatting process:

    • Low-level formatting (Basic Prep of the Drive)
    • Partitioning (Making the Data stored in drive recognizable to the OS)
    • High-level Formatting (the process of creating a New System)

    When to Use Partition Formatting?

    The best-case scenario for Disk formatting is when you want to install a new OS in your drive. So, it is recommended to format your disk only when you are changing your device OS.

    How to Format Your Disk Partition?

    STEP 1: First, launch the Command Prompt in your machine. Make sure to run it as an Administrator.

    STEP 2: Type ‘Diskpart’ in the command line & press Enter to execute command.

    STEP 3: You will get a Diskpart window. Type here ‘list disk’ & then press Enter button.

    STEP 4: Now select your required disk to format the partition drive. You can also specify the drive number to execute formatting.

    STEP 5: In the next step, type the ‘Clean’ command, that will permanently delete all your files & folders.

    STEP 6: If you want to reuse the hard drive partition, type ‘Create partition Primary’.

    STEP 7: Now, you need to format the drive either with FAT or NTFS. Type here ‘format fs=ntfs’ & then press the enter button.

    STEP 8: Finally, you need to assign a drive letter by typing ‘Assign’ the command prompt.
