Get Ready for the Big Game: How to Install a TV Mount

If you’ve recently decided to get a new TV for your game day party and are wondering where to put it, congratulations! Did you know that a quarter of Superbowl viewers purchase a new TV set for the special event?

You might want to put your new purchase up against a wall or on top of your old set.

But both options present their problems. So let’s take a closer look into what’s required when considering how to install a TV mount.

Choose The Location of TV Mount

The location of your TV mount is a priority. You need to know where you’re going to drill before choosing a TV mount. You need to factor in viewing angles, room size, and of course, the size of the TV when working outplacement.

But that’s not all. You should install your wall mount in a studded wall. If you’re wondering how to find studs, you can use a quality stud finder that tells you where the studs are but also alerts you to any dangers behind the wall, such as electrical wiring.

    Choosing a TV Mount

The next important tip is to look for a wall mount with a lot of space for your TV. If your new TV is bigger than the old one, then you might have to find another wall mount if your old one is not big enough.

Remember, you’ll also need to hide wires for the TV mount. Most modern TV mounts come with special cutaways that allow wiring to be tidied behind the TV neatly. These give the mount a clean finish.

You can hide any excess wires either in front of the wall using trunking or run the wiring down behind the wall if space allows. The best way to feed wires through the wall is to use a magnet attached to the wiring, then a magnet on the other end to not lose the cable inside the wall.

How To Install a TV Mount

Installing a TV mount differs depending on the instructions provided with the mount. It’s advised in most cases to hire a professional for installations, upgrades and repairs.

But if you’re intent on doing it yourself, most follow the same basic procedure, providing you’ve adhered to previous advice.

    1. Mark where you want the mount to go on your stud wall
    2. Drill holes through the studs using a stud gauge and electric drill
    3. Attach the mount to the wall with lag bolts at each end of the mount or each corner
    4. Check the mount is secured to the wall and, using a spirit level, check it is level
    5. Test-fit the TV mount and tighten the supports at the top of the mount as required
    6. Connect the wires from your TV to the mount

Call a Professional to Install Your Mount

If you’re still unsure or cannot have a second person to assist, it’s worth calling the professionals out to install a TV mount.

We’re talking about thousands of dollars in equipment, renovating, and DIY. And when it comes to looking at a TV, chances are you’ll notice that amateur finish if you do it yourself! So for many, paying a little extra for a professional to do the best possible job is priceless.
